Small Details in Nature Map

Small Details In Nature Infographic Map

Media/Software: Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

Design Intention: SCAD B.F.A. Student Project

Overview: I created two separate maps each with over 200 pieces of information arranged in an aesthetically pleasing way. The theme I chose for my maps was "Small Details In Nature". I researched hundreds of objects found in nature that were smaller than the palm of my hand. From there I created a text map containing all the objects and descriptions along with a key at the bottom of the page to describe categories. The second map I created was an image based map. Each photograph is placed in the same position as the matching word on the first map. The main shape on the page started as a circle and transformed to become more organic better representing nature. The straight lines show the geometric shapes in nature. Nature is filled with all different shapes, sizes, textures and lines. I wanted to represent organic and geometric in my map design. The lines lead from the object to a descriptive word. There are around 150 objects I found in nature that lead to about 70 different descriptive words about those objects. The different length lines of the key at the bottom of the page represents how often the color is used in the map. Finally, the title of my map is in the bottom right hand corner and a very subtle color to make the viewer search for it just as they would search for a small unexpected object in nature.
